Method for Production of Nanostructured Surfaces on Stents for Improved Biocompatibility |
| Description: |
The present invention relates to methods for suppressing unwanted effects upon installing a bare metallic stent into the human body, such as restenosis and thrombosis. A bare metallic stent made from a metal or an alloy of appropriate mechanical properties is subjected to a six-step procedure which includes selecting the appropriate metal or alloy, treatment with Ar ions, depositing a uniform film of titanium, anodization until a fraction of said titanium film is oxidized, removal of the said oxide film and activation of the product with atomic oxygen. The present invention also relates to a metallic stent made from a material of appropriate mechanical properties coated with a thin film of titanium with nanostructured surface and surface energy above 50 mN/m in accordance with the method of the present invention. |
