Title: Method for Functionalization of Polyolefins with Simultaneous Combination of Nitrogen and Oxygen Functional Groups
Description: The invention reveals a process for treating products made from polyolefins, especially products made from polyethylene and polypropylene. The polyolefin product is exposed to the action of N and NH radicals, which chemically react with the surface of the polyolefin at room temperature. At the same time, the polyolefin product is exposed to OH radicals, which are preferably prepared in such a way that nitrogen molecules in a metastable excited state react with water vapor molecules in the gas phase. The result of the treatment by the method that is the subject of the invention is the saturation of the surface of polyolefins with a combination of oxygen and nitrogen functional groups, which enables optimal wettability of the product and thus a suitable surface condition for bonding moderately polar organic molecules to the surface of the polyolefin product.
