Method of Paper Processing to Achieve Oleophobic Properties of Paper |
Description: |
The subject invention relates to a method of processing paper to achieve oleophobic properties of the paper. The paper is exposed to the action of hydroxyl radicals, which react with the surface of the paper at room temperature and form hydroxyl groups that are bound to the surface carbon atoms. When the concentration of chemically bound hydroxyl groups on the surface of the paper is sufficiently high, it is further exposed to radicals that are formed from the vapor of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) under conditions of gas plasma. The radicals chemically react with the surface of the paper, forming a strong chemical bond that provides good adhesion. Prolonged exposure of the paper to the radicals formed from the vapor of hexamethyldisiloxane under conditions of gas plasma leads to the deposition of a thin layer of material similar to polydimethylsiloxane. Such a layer has a pronounced oleophobic effect. |
