VISITS TO THE MAIN UNIT IN LJUBLJANA (VIČ DISTRICT)
The main unit of the Jožef Stefan Institute is located at Jamova cesta 39 in Ljubljana (view the map).
Upon prior announcement you can visit us from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 16:00. Please send us you enquiry at least 14 days before the date of the planned visit.
The entire visit can consist of one programme (3 x 20 min) or of maximum two programmes (2 sets of 2 x 20 min with a pause in between).
Maximum number of visitors under each programme is, due to safety reasons, limited to 15 persons (within a single visit, a maximum of 45 visitors can visit the Institute). During the school year, we are able to accept the visit of one school per week. Any additional change in number of visitors is not possible due to organizational reasons. In case the visitors are primary or high school pupils/students, they need to be accompanied by a teacher, professor or other person with pedagogical education, employed by the school.
Parking of cars and buses is not possible on the Institute’s premises. Buses that carry schoolchildren may enter the main parking lot to enable safe exit from the bus. Additionally, they may also pick up the children at the main parking lot.
We ask for a thorough compliance with the safety instructions given by the IJS staff (especially those given by the laboratory staff). Uncontrolled walking through the Institute’s laboratories is not allowed due to safety reasons, please stay with the group.
Duration of visits
- Visiting JSI during the school year: You can choose one of the programmes that include the visit to three departments in the full duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes (3 x 25 min).
Due to a high demand, we have – in cooperation with the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and Technology (K1) – prepared an additional offer of “School of experimental chemistry” that is expected to be organized once a month in the duration of approximately half an hour. We kindly ask you to check the overview of booked visits and contact us for details at email@example.com.
Change of programme
Due to the nature of work, organization and occupancy of laboratories, visit coordinators may change the visit programmes without prior consultation with the visitors. Still, the date, time and duration of the visit will always remain unchanged. We thank you for your understanding!
Without prior written permission, taking photographs on the premises of the Institute is not allowed. Thank you for your understanding!
Please do not eat during the presentations in the laboratories. Schools and visit organizers can agree on breaks between the presentations. Additionally, IJS has its own restaurant that is open for all visitors.
SPECIAL NOTIFICATION FOR THE VISITORS OF THE SCHOOL OF EXPERIMENTAL CHEMISTRY
As a part of the School of experimental chemistry, groups can also prepare ice cream by using liquid nitrogen. We at JSI are always delighted to eat that ice cream, however, we are obliged to notify you that the Institute is not registered for the production of ice cream and does thus not assume any responsibility for the eating thereof. Consequently, you are eating the ice cream produced during the School of experimental chemistry on your own responsibility.
